(To the tune of Jingle Bells)
No 'ther gods, no idols
Don’t misuse God’s name.
Oh, keep the Sabbath holy, for that’s God’s special day, HEY!
Honor Mom and your Dad
Don’t lust, murder, steal
No false tales, no envy this is God’s great deal, HEY!

OPENING ACTIVITY:
Red Light/Green Light
Directions:
Children line up in a horizontal line facing you. Teacher stands at the opposite side of the room and calls out "Green Light" or "Red Light." When teacher says green light the children move towards, when teacher calls red light they must stop. The first child to reach teacher wins. A child must go back to the starting line if they continue to move forward once teacher calls red light.

Discussion:
Would the game have been fun if there were no rules? (No)
Why do rules make the game more fun?

STORY TIME:
Introduction:
It had been three months since the Israelites had left Egypt when they came upon a mountain called Sinai. The Israelites decided to camp there in the desert in front of the mountain. God called to Moses from the mountain, and Moses went up to God. God gave Moses ten special rules, called the Ten Commandments, to pass on to the people.

Read Exodus 20:1-17 (The Ten Commandments)

Discussion Questions:
1. What is a commandment? (A law or rule given to us by God)
2. Should we follow the ten commandments today? (Yes)
3. How many commandments did God give Moses to bring to the people? (Ten)
4. How can the ten commandments help us live better lives? (They help us stay close to God and get along with others.)

Activity: Rules are Good for us
Preparation:
Print out the four rules Rule 1, Rule 2, Rule 3, Rule 4
What you will do:
Show the rules one by one to the class.  Ask them to tell you what could happen if you break the rule.
What you will say:
Tell the children that God has rules that He wants us to follow. These rules are designed to keep us safe and happy. When we break God's rules, it makes Him sad. When we break God's rules, it's called sin.

Praise Him above, you heavenly host;
