Sunday School 11/10/13

Don't Worry, Be Thankful

TOPIC:
After completing this lesson, the children will learn that our focus should not be on ourselves, but rather on God's Kingdom and His righteousness. As God supplies our daily needs, we should express our gratitude with prayers of thanksgiving.

OPENING MUSIC:
Angela Zoltek will lead the opening music

The Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, you heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 6:25-34
In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount he teaches his followers that they need not worry because God has already given them all they need.

In the Veggie Tales story, fear and worry are the topics.

Discussion Questions:

1. Name three things the Bible says we are not to worry about in this life. (What we will eat, what we will drink and what we will wear.)
2. The Bible tells us that we are more valuable than the birds of the air. Who feeds the birds? (Our Heavenly Father.)
3. The lilies of the field are very beautiful, yet they do not labor or spin; who clothes the flowers in such splendor? (Our Heavenly Father.)
4. The Bible tells us that pagans worry about what they will eat or drink and what they shall wear. Why do you think pagans worry about these things? (Their focus is on themselves instead of God, they trust in their own strength or false gods to meet their needs.)
5. What is the key to having God supply our daily needs? (We are to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness first, and have faith that He will meet our daily needs.)
6. What should our response be to God when He supplies us with our daily needs? (We should be grateful and thank God. Giving thanks to God, praying before meals.)
