Jesus Loves Children

TOPIC:
In this lesson, children discover that they are very important to Jesus. They are special in His eyes because they are God's children.

Angela Zoltek will lead the opening music

The Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, you heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost

STORY:
Mark 10:13-16
Some people were bringing their small children to Jesus. They wanted Jesus to touch the children. But His followers told the people to go away. When Jesus saw this, it made him unhappy. He said to His followers, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them. God's kingdom belongs to people who are like these little children." Then He said, "You must accept God's kingdom as a child accepts things. If you don't, you will never get in." Then Jesus took the children in his arms. He put His hands on them and blessed them. You are a special child of God's also.

Discussion Questions
1. One of the verses we read said Jesus was displeased. Why do you think He was displeased? (He didn't want the disciples to stop the children from coming to Him because they were important.)
2. Does the Kingdom of God belong only to grown-ups? (No, to children also.)
3. Do you think Jesus felt that spending time with children was more important than answering difficult questions?(Jesus stopped what He was doing to welcome the children.)
4. How would you feel if you were one of those children that Jesus took in His arms? (Allow for answers.)
5. Do you know that Jesus has His arms around you right now? (Allow for answers.)

BEE THUMB-BODY craft

MATERIALS:
Fun Stamp pad and ink
White Construction paper
Yellow Construction paper
Assorted Markers, Glue sticks

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Make tiny little bees using thumbprints of the kids. Before class, write the following heading in bold letters on pieces of white construction paper:

I can bee thumb-body with Jesus

During class, help the kids use an inkpad to make several thumbprints on their paper. Then help them glue on wings made from ovals cut from yellow construction paper. The kids can draw feelers and body decorations to each bee.

DISCUSSION:
Sometimes kids feel left out or that they are not important because they are so young. Some may be longing for attention, others may be easily discouraged. This little activity will help the kids know that they are somebody very important to Jesus. He was never too busy to let the children come to Him with open arms. With Jesus inside their hearts, they are special some-bodies.

GAME: Jesus Loves The Little Children Musical Chairs
The kids will play musical chairs to the well-known song Jesus Loves The Little Children.

LORD'S PRAYER:
The children learn the Lord's prayer
